Type: Expo, initiator and organiser   Year: 2015

Since I personally missed a platform for exchange between the different master studios at my own Faculty of Architecture, I initiated to create one myself. I approached the architecture student association Argus and formed my own committee, including Boris Popma, Bob Robertus and Max Verhoeven. This resulted into the Argus Expo:

“Every semester, many design and research projects are undertaken by Msc1- and Msc2 students at the Faculty of Architecture of the TU Delft. A considerable number of designs, ideas and resources are developed within the context of the different studios. These projects, addressing a wide range of themes, display the great variety in the spectrum of our education and the genuine ambition and effort of it’s students. Up until now, this diversity of student work lacks a communal platform; a place for exchange and comparison.

We are happy to inform you that Argus will be organising a bi-annual exhibition, displaying a selection of the most remarkable or innovative projects from each (Msc1 and Msc2 Architecture) studio, side-by-side at the Faculty of Architecture. We believe that in exposing the diversity of these projects lies a great potential for inter-studio debate and the sharing of gained knowledge.

By organising Argus Expo, we aim to give the studios a chance to show what they have been up to and to display a selection of their projects among those of other studios. The Expo offers students the opportunity to have their work be part of an exhibition at the Faculty of Architecture. It will help students to orientate themselves for the following semester and finally it aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences between students and teachers.

The exhibition, Argus Expo, will be opened with an event, to which both students and teachers will be invited. Roberto Cavallo, director of education, will be our moderator and he will start the event with a short introduction, followed by a selection of students who will present their work and vision. Afterwards, everyone is invited to have a look at the collection of this semester's most interesting projects and vote for their personal favourite. During this event students can get an idea of the studios’ activities and talk with colleagues who have already participated. Teachers can represent their studio and converse with students in an informal setting, while enjoying a drink and a snack.”

The initiative was very welcomed and appreciated by both students and staff and due to its succes has now become part of the annual agenda.
