Mix&Match is the winner of the Sustainable Lounge Design Contest by D-exto, a travelling festival pavilion promoting sustainable awareness (www.d-exto.com) and designed together with Roxanne Kiel.

Mix & Match is a unique sustainable and interactive piece of festival furniture designed to be flexible, versatile and easy to use! The design covers two problems with one solution, by creating an object that functions as lounge furniture during festivals as well as a storage box during transport from and to these festivals. Two box types are recommended: a standard box of 120 x 90 x 60 cm and a smaller one that is half the size. This way they provide the perfect height for lounging and sitting, and can be combined to form a bar height of even an easy accessible platform or stage. The boxes are made of sustainable and natural ECOBOARD, a panel made from agricultural residues bonded together with the natural lignine of the cellulose fibers. The boxes are designed in such a way that they can be combined horizontally and vertically and easy to plug-in additions. One of the boxes contains a variety of chair back supports, rugs and pillows. The back supports originate from old chairs, that were considered waste, and are equipped with a uniform plug-in system that fits into the holes on the top side of the boxes. The old rugs, rugs made from scrap textile and second hand pillows can be draped over any configuration to establish comfort. Users are free to arrange all components as they wish to create an interactive, personal and playful object.

Our goal is to make people more conscious about their way of life and increase their general knowledge on how to live a more sustainable lifestyle. We show that being sustainable can be easy, fun and pragmatic. In our design we show a simple way of reusing that aims to enhance sustainable awareness among its users.
