Type: Furniture Design   Year: 2014

At the University of New South Wales in Sydney I attended a course in Furniture design. One of the assignments was to reinterpret the multifunctional Ulmer Hocker stool by Max Bill for the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) in Ulm, Germany, which is a highlight of both functionalist and minimalist design. Robust, light and versatile, it can be used as a seat, as stool or bench, a side table, a shelving element, a box or lectern when placed on top of a table. The same outer dimensions of the original have been used, but on one of the sides the edges are diagonally cut into the orthogonal design. This way a alteration of lines is created resulting in a dynamic appearance and play of light and shadow. The stool is made of beech wood.
